We are delighted to offer for sale this ultra rare 1978 Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Stradale. This homologation special is presented in the bright blue exterior with a superb velour interior with matching blue centre strips in the seating and sits on these superb 15”Magnesium Abarth Cromadora alloy wheels which are fitted with the original Pirelli P7 tyres. The Abarth also benefits from a LSD, Bilstein Suspension and twin 40 IDF down draughts.
The Fiat 131 started life as a family car being sold in 3 door, 5 door and estate versions. However in the late 1970’s Fiat wanted to rejoin the world rally scene from their days with the 124. They then partnered with Abarth and Bertone to turn the Fiat 131 into a competitive world rally competition car that saw it knock the Lancia Stratos off its perch. The Fiat was so successful that it won the 1977, 1978 and 1980 world rally championships in the hands of Sandro Munari, Markku Alen and non other than the maestro of WRC Walter Rohrl.
As with any competition car the manufacturer had to produce 400 cars for homologation rules, the car you see today is one of the 400 Stradale versions produced. This Abarth Rally is highly original and is presented in exceptional condition throughout and is accompanied with a letter of authenticity from the Abarth register.
It has huge presence with it’s Bertone styling that was so attractive in period and for rally enthusiasts today it serves as a stunning reminder of that fabulous by gone era. The drive is also quite remarkable with a punchy 2 litre inline 4 engine and direct gear change that give a very linear performance as well as a chassis that included independent suspension all round. Altogether this makes for a very entertaining and sorted driving experience that is not easily replicated today.
A true collectors car that is ready to be enjoyed.
